You guys sure ask a lot of questions. I love it. Keep it up. I decided to create another post where I answer a number of queries that have popped up fairly frequently in the past couple of weeks. This time, however, it is all about traveling. Because that seems to be the topic you guys are particularly interested in.
Make sure to check out my first FAQ post where I answer general stuff. If you still can’t find what you’re looking for, drop me a message and I’ll answer your question in my next post (yeah, there’s more to come).
How do you get to travel so much?
Scrolling through my Instagram feed, it kinda looks like I’m always on vacation. I’m not, though. I have a full time job. So whenever I’m not traveling (which is most time of the year), I’m adulting. I guess the key lies in time management. Sometimes, all you need is a free weekend to discover a new city.
And once again, this example proves that Instagram showcases only a tiny fraction of a person’s life. Don’t let yourself get fooled by the Gram! 😉
I do have to admit, though, that I’m on a sabbatical right now which is why I’ll be in the US for the rest of the year. Don’t get me wrong – I still have my job. I’m just not working. You probably hate me right now.
What’s your favorite travel destination?
The US! Sure, I’d love to explore other continents too. Asia, for instance, must be pretty exciting. But for the time being, I safe all my money for my trips to the States.
I’m so fascinated by the US and there are so many cities I haven’t explored yet, such as Chicago or Philly.
Which place do you want to go to next?
At the end of August, I went on a road trip. I started in Vancouver, Canada, and made my way down to Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles where I’ll be until October 16. After that, I’m returning to one of my favorite cities in the US: Washington, DC. Yay! And once I’m there, I also want to go on a weekend trip to New York. Because, hey, it’s New York!
How can you afford this?
Except for my trip to Florence and the one to Austin which I took this summer, none of my journeys are sponsored. For both, the program in Florence and in Austin, I had to go through an acceptance process. So even though technically, these trips were for free, I earned them. 🙂
As far as my other journeys are concerned: Whenever I have a Euro left, I put it in a jar. That really piles up. I used this method for my road trip, safing more than 250 Euros.
Also, I try to not spend exorbitant amounts of money when I travel. There are a couple of tricks to get around cost efficiently while not cutting down on the quality of a trip. Pick nicks, for instance, are just as much fun as eating out. But they’re way budget friendlier.
How do you stay fit when traveling?
I had to laugh out loud when I read this one because I’m not a fitgirl whatsoever (I wish I was!). All I’m trying to do is eat healthy and do a workout every now and then. My level of success varies, though.
I have to admit that I eat way unhealthier when I’m not the road. I just don’t want to miss out on all the delicious meals a country has to offer.
So what I do is I try compensating my unhealthy eating by being active. Instead of taking the metro, I walk around and explore the city by foot. Or better yet: I go for a run! I absolutely love discovering new places during morning or evening runs.
